Antique/ Traditional Process
Antique/ Traditional Process
Whether you have a family heirloom, a precious antique or just a bargain buy from a sale room that needs attention. We can offer a complete refurbishment service, including frame repairs, French polishing, caning and rush seating.
Your furniture will be carefully stripped to the frame, at this point we will attend to any loose or broken frame joints, treat for woodworm if necessary, also strip, stain and French polish the show wood if required. With this complete we will then re-upholster your furniture to its original style using all the traditional methods and materials that would have been used in the making of your furniture originally, including coil springs and horse hair stuffing. Once this is complete we will then re-cover and trim in fabric of your choice
Settee stripped to frame ready to be re-upholstered. Carvings repaired and frame stripped and re-polished.
Early stages of the re-upholstering. Back has been re-webbed, hessian has been attached and stuffing ties put in place ready to receive first stuffing on horse hair.
Complete inside back and arms fully upholstered with first stuffing and stitching ready for second stuffing.
Seat first stuffing in place with stitched edge including 4 blind rows and top stitch to make firm edge and follow shape of settee front. Then second stuffing of horse hair is added.
This will now have a layer of cotton felt and covered in calico ready to be re-covered in top fabric.
